Sule Lamido issues 10-day ultimatum to PDP, urging cancellation of Ibadan convention and formation of caretaker committee to resolve party crisis
Kano, 23 November 2023 — Former Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido has given the Peoples Democratic Party a 10-day ultimatum to resolve its ongoing internal crisis, demanding the cancellation of the recent national convention in Ibadan and the appointment of a caretaker committee to lead the party.

Lamido directed his call at the Turaki Taminu-led National Working Committee, which emerged from the Ibadan convention, urging the NWC to step aside for a caretaker committee to take charge.
The former governor spoke on Thursday while addressing hundreds of supporters, including former local government chairmen, ex-commissioners, and political appointees, who visited him at his Sharada office in Kano to show solidarity.
“The current turmoil in the party is partly linked to efforts to undermine my political relevance,” Lamido said.
“We must be patient, but if the issue is not resolved within 10 days, we will decide on the next course of action.”
He stressed that his legal interventions are aimed at protecting the PDP’s legacy and defending his fundamental rights, not forcing himself into party leadership.
Lamido reiterated that Umar Damagum and Samuel Anyanwu remain the legitimate party leaders until December 8, 2025.
The former governor warned that continuing without clear leadership structures could jeopardise the prospects of aspirants, current officeholders, and those planning to seek reelection.
“I am advocating for a caretaker committee,” he said, urging PDP figures including Nyesom Wike, Damagum, and others to reconcile and support the formation of a unified body.
Lamido also appealed to his supporters to remain calm and patient until December 8 to observe how the situation unfolds.
The PDP crisis intensified following the November 14–15 national convention in Ibadan, which was held amid conflicting court orders.
Two courts in Abuja had restrained the party from holding the convention, while an Ibadan court permitted it.
