Fayose on Tinubu: Former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose praises President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to stabilise Nigeria’s economy and currency, declaring the current administration superior to the previous one, though he vows to remain in the PDP
Former Governor of Ekiti State and prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ayodele Fayose, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, asserting that Nigeria’s current economic climate cannot be compared to that under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking to journalists after paying a Sallah homage to President Tinubu in Lagos, Fayose expressed his long-held belief in Tinubu’s leadership, crediting him with stabilising the economy and the nation’s currency.
Fayose on Tinubu was clear: he believes the President is making significant progress. “Well, even when I was in office as a PDP governor, a sitting governor, I’ve always believed in his leadership,” Fayose stated, explaining the motive behind his visit despite being an opposition figure.
“And I did not hide my support for him even before he became the president. And the only thing we can do as the leaders of this country today is to continue to encourage him to lift up his hands, to make the public understand how uneasy it is to lead.”
The former governor directly contrasted the current situation with the previous administration.
“An economy that is down, and today it’s being stabilised. There’s a difference between things changing outrightly. There is no miracle. But stabilising the economy, stabilising the currency. And few courageous steps the President has taken and the achievements of this administration put hope in tomorrow for all of us,” he affirmed.
Fayose clarified that his visit was purely personal and aimed at encouraging the President’s efforts for Nigerians.
“No one is saying it’s easy, but there’s no miracle that can turn around things overnight,” he said.
“For the little the President has done, we must commend him. I was a one-time critic of the last administration, but you cannot compare the situation now. So, for me, I’m here to take the opportunity of his homecoming to visit him. And to encourage him to do more for Nigerians.”
Responding to questions about the recent wave of defections within Nigeria’s political landscape, Fayose firmly stated that his visit had no connection to such movements. He unequivocally declared that he would “never leave the PDP for any other party, not even APC.”
He acknowledged that those who recently defected from the PDP to the ruling APC might have their reasons, including the President’s perceived performance and the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP, which he dramatically suggested would soon render the party a “carcass.”

However, he concluded with a personal commitment: “I, Ayo Fayose, will not move from PDP to any political party, not even APC. I’m this year, 65 years. It’s within the choices of those who’ve chosen to move.”
