Plateau PDP Chairman Chris Hassan Bows Out Proudly

Hassan, a former Commissioner for Works, took over the party’s leadership in 2021 when the state was under the control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by former Governor Simon Lalong.

Speaking at a press conference in Jos on Friday to mark his final day in office, Hassan, flanked by members of the state executive committee, including Senator Napoleon Bali, said the current PDP administration had justified the trust reposed in it.

“We have no regrets returning the PDP to power, and the current administration under the party is doing well,” he said confidently.

The outgoing chairman expressed gratitude to the media for what he described as “consistent support and partnership” throughout his tenure.

“Your steadfast coverage and professional commitment gave our party the visibility and voice it needed,” he added.

Reflecting on the 2023 general elections, Hassan listed the party’s major victories — including the governorship, two senatorial seats, five House of Representatives positions, and 16 seats in the Plateau State House of Assembly.

He explained that the PDP challenged the then ruling party “not with bitterness, but with conviction that Plateau State deserves better service.”

Hassan also commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for what he described as exemplary leadership in governance, peacebuilding, infrastructure, and accountability. “His leadership has set a new standard, and we will continue to support his efforts to move Plateau State forward,” he stated.

Addressing recent defections, Hassan maintained that such political shifts were temporary and expressed optimism that a “stronger and more united PDP” would soon emerge.

He congratulated the incoming state executive, urging them to build upon the foundation of unity and resilience established during his tenure.
