ADC unveils bold plan to redesign Nigerian governance

ADC governance redesign targets transparency, ending godfatherism and budget padding with tech-driven, citizen-focused public service reforms.

ADC governance redesign has taken centre stage in Nigeria’s political discourse, as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) announces a sweeping plan to dismantle the entrenched systems of godfatherism, budget padding, and patronage politics.

In a strongly worded statement shared on Friday via the party’s ADC Vanguard platform on X, the party described its initiative as nothing less than “a complete redesign of how governance should work in a modern democracy.”

“For too long, Nigerian politics has revolved around personalities rather than principles. Power has been used for patronage rather than progress,” the statement read.

The ADC governance redesign blueprint proposes radical shifts in public accountability, including a digital ledger system that would allow Nigerians to trace government spending in real time.

“Every naira spent by the government will be traceable — from federal ministries to the smallest local projects,” the party stated, touting blockchain-backed systems and public dashboards.

The party condemned budget padding, which involves inflating budget lines or inserting new, often suspicious projects — a practice civic groups claim has cost Nigeria N10.96 trillion between 2021 and 2025.

“Under an ADC government, a minimum of 70% of all budgeted projects must directly benefit local communities, rather than vanish into inflated contracts,” the statement added.

Going further, the ADC pledged to turn youth from political pawns into policy watchdogs, leveraging their digital fluency to monitor, audit, and hold government accountable.

“Young Nigerians will not only be employed by the government but empowered to audit it,” the party said.

Using citizen participation platforms, data verification tools, and open dashboards, the party plans to involve communities directly in project monitoring and national planning — essentially creating a feedback loop between the governed and those in power.

Rejecting the political reward system, the party declared that under its rule, ministers would face quarterly appraisals — but not for loyalty to party bosses.

“They’ll be judged by their results: infrastructure delivered, lives impacted, social indicators improved.”

The ADC likened its governance model to a “well-run business”, but one where citizens are the shareholders and the dividends include better roads, affordable healthcare, quality education, and jobs — not political kickbacks.

“This is governance redesigned: where public service becomes a performance contract, not a prize for allegiance.”

The party firmly stated it is not entering politics to continue business as usual.

“The ADC is not asking Nigerians to dream of change. We are building it — one transparent policy at a time.”

With a vision described as a movement where innovation meets integrity, the party’s approach echoes rising calls for systemic reform rather than cosmetic change.

The statement concludes with a clear pledge: to deliver a model of governance built on transparency, performance, and citizen-first service, setting a new benchmark for political leadership in Nigeria.
