Governor Bala Mohammed has approved ₦945,250,000 for the 2024/2025 scholarship programme, with ₦800 million already released to beneficiaries in tertiary institutions nationwide.

The National President of the National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS), Bello Ibrahim, described the scholarship disbursement as historic in scale and impact during a press briefing on Tuesday.

Out of 21,901 applicants, 19,546 verified beneficiaries have received a total of ₦801,263,200 across 154 institutions, with the remaining ₦145 million set for imminent release.

“For too long, scholarship payments were plagued by delays and doubts, causing students to struggle with tuition and exams,” Ibrahim said.

“Under Governor Bala Mohammed’s compassionate leadership, this has changed — restoring trust and confidence among students.”

The governor’s scholarship initiative also includes sponsoring 100 Bauchi students to pursue advanced studies in China, with the first batch already en route.

This visionary investment reflects a commitment to positioning Bauchi youths as global competitors in science, technology, and innovation.

Addressing rising campus insecurity, NUBASS worked with the Bauchi State Police Command, leading to the approval of a police station at Wuntin Dada to protect Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic and surrounding areas.

Increased patrols and surveillance have also been implemented.

Other achievements under NUBASS’s administration include the renovation of the long-abandoned NUBASS Secretariat, free JAMB registration pins for indigent students, a state-wide orientation programme, and the hosting of Bauchi’s first EDUTECH Conference, which gathered policymakers, scholars, and students to explore the future of digital education.
