Speaking in Abuja on Friday, National Publicity Secretary Abayomi Arabambi made the announcement, stressing that no aspirant would be favoured.

“There shall be primary elections in the Labour Party, and no aspirant will be favoured this time around,” Arabambi said.

He criticised the party’s 2023 decision to adopt Peter Obi, calling it a mistake that cost the party dearly and betrayed public trust.

Arabambi accused Obi of disloyalty after his alignment with the African Democratic Congress and his intent to contest the 2027 election through a coalition.

He called the coalition “ungodly” and described its members as the same group that brought hardship between 2015 and 2023.

The party’s stance reflects a desire to reassert its credibility and ensure only candidates with commitment to the party are given a chance.

Arabambi also stated that the Labour Party is committed to internal democracy and will not repeat the errors of the past.
