Bafarawa, who now serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, described the initiative as a non-partisan movement dedicated to the transformation of Northern Nigeria Arewa through collective action, dialogue, and sustainable development.
“Arewa is more than a geographical expression. It is a symbol of our identity, our history, and our collective destiny,” Bafarawa stated at the launch.
The Arewa Cohesion Initiative seeks to address pressing issues facing the region, including communal violence, youth restiveness, insecurity, and economic exclusion.
Bafarawa emphasised that the movement is not aligned with any political party and will remain strictly non-partisan.
“We are not out to fight anybody, but rather to build bridges and foster constructive engagement,” he added.
He clarified that while individual members may pursue political aspirations, the core focus of the movement remains on peace-building, equity, unity, and inclusive development.
Bafarawa also revealed the development of a comprehensive blueprint aimed at guiding the North towards a more prosperous future.
The blueprint, he explained, will be shared with political candidates across all parties who demonstrate a commitment to realising its goals.
“We stand ready to offer our support to any political office seeker whom we are convinced will champion the implementation of this blueprint for the overall benefit of our people,” he said.
The event drew attention from across the Northern region and was widely seen as a timely response to the socio-political challenges confronting Arewa.

The initiative is expected to function as a civil society platform advocating for justice, dialogue, and people-centred development without becoming a political organisation.
