Osun YPP APC defectors claims rejected as the party denies links to a group that declared support for the APC ahead of the governorship election
The Osun State chapter of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) has distanced itself from a group that publicly declared support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting the individuals no longer represent the party ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Animasahun Saheed, the YPP said it does not recognise or endorse the group, identified as the YPP Decampees Group, which addressed an APC campaign rally in Ede.
The party said its position followed consultations involving the State Working Committee, local government executives and other stakeholders across Osun State.
Addressing the Osun YPP APC defectors controversy, the party maintained that it remains united, independent and fully operational across all 30 local government areas of the state, including Ede Federal Constituency.
“The Young Progressive Party in Osun State remains a united, active, and independent political platform with a functional State Executive and structures in all 30 Local Government Areas, including Ede Federal Constituency,” the statement said.
The YPP argued that members who voluntarily defect to another political party automatically lose their membership and, as a result, cannot speak or negotiate on behalf of the party.
It also rejected the titles and positions claimed by individuals who addressed the APC rally, stating that they are not recognised by the party’s leadership as officials of the Osun chapter.
Reaffirming its political direction, the YPP said it remains committed to transparency, accountability, youth inclusion and people-centred governance.
The party further denied reports of merger discussions with any political organisation, stressing that it is focused on contesting the forthcoming governorship election under its own platform.
“We are not in merger talks with any party, and we are fully mobilized ahead of the August 15, 2026 Governorship election to present credible candidates under the YPP platform and to advance our own PROSPERITY AGENDA for the people of Osun,” the statement added.
The party urged the media, supporters and members of the public to disregard claims made by the group, describing them as inconsistent with the official position of the Osun State chapter.
The statement also alleged that the claims were orchestrated by Alexander-Roast Tadenikawo Adeleke and some aggrieved former members, while calling on loyal members to remain calm, united and committed to strengthening the party.

The development comes as political parties intensify campaigns and realignments ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with defections and alliance speculations continuing to shape the political landscape in Osun State.
