Adeleke Backs Accord Candidates Despite Tinubu Coalition

Adeleke backs Accord candidates in 2027 legislative elections despite coalition with APC and PDP for Tinubu’s re-election

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his support for Accord candidates contesting the 2027 legislative elections, despite his participation in a coalition with the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party to secure President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.

Adeleke said the political alliance was formed specifically to support Tinubu in the January 2027 presidential election and would not affect the parties’ positions in the Senate, House of Representatives and state House of Assembly elections.

The governor stated this in a post on his X account on Friday, following the inauguration of the Osun State Presidential Campaign Council for Tinubu’s re-election.

He declared that his backing for Accord candidates remained firm across the legislative contests.

“My support for all Accord candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly remains unshaken,” Adeleke said.

The governor described the arrangement involving Accord, APC and PDP as a “rainbow coalition” focused exclusively on the President’s second-term bid.

He stressed that the agreement did not amount to a broader electoral alliance for the 2027 legislative elections.

“Our rainbow coalition of Accord, APC and PDP is united solely for President Tinubu’s re-election in the January 2027 presidential election. This partnership does not extend to the legislative elections,” he said.

Adeleke also said the coalition remained committed to exceeding the 1.5 million votes previously pledged to Tinubu in Osun State.

The development highlights the separate political calculations surrounding the 2027 presidential and legislative elections, with Adeleke maintaining his support for Accord candidates while working with members of other parties on the presidential contest.

The governor also provided an update on the lingering local government crisis in Osun State, saying discussions aimed at resolving the dispute had reached an advanced stage.

According to Adeleke, he had received assurances from the Federal Government that positive developments would emerge from the ongoing negotiations.

“On the Osun local government crisis, negotiations are at an advanced stage. I have received the assurance of the Federal Government, and there will be positive developments soon,” he said.

Adeleke further urged political stakeholders to look beyond party differences and work together in what he described as a critical period for the country.

“These are critical times that demand unity beyond political differences. From the pain of the past, we must unite for the prosperity of the future,” the governor added.
