PDP Dominates Adamawa LG Polls With Landslide Council Win

PDP wins Adamawa local government election in 20 LGAs as final result awaits Numan poll in a closely watched council contest

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has recorded a sweeping victory in the Adamawa local government election after securing wins in 20 out of 21 Local Government Areas where results have been declared by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission, ADSIEC, in a decisive political outcome that underscores the party’s continued grassroots strength.

The result emerged after collation confirmed that the party clinched all declared LGAs, leaving only Numan Local Government Area, where voting was postponed, still awaiting results.

The final poll in Numan is scheduled for completion following its earlier postponement from Saturday, June 13, when elections were conducted across other parts of the state.

Despite the All Progressives Congress, APC, controlling the state government, the PDP maintained dominance at the local government level, a development that has drawn political attention across Adamawa State and beyond.

Political observers noted that much of the PDP’s success stemmed from early mobilisation and the retention of incumbent council chairmen who had been endorsed under the party before recent political realignments.

Although Governor Ahmadu Fintiri reportedly moved from the PDP to the APC earlier in the year, several party structures at grassroots level remained intact under the PDP, contributing to the outcome.

Other participating political parties in the election failed to mount a significant challenge, according to early assessments of the voting exercise.

Chief Maurice Vunobolki, the PDP governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections, praised the outcome, describing it as evidence of the party’s continued acceptance among voters in the state.

The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission confirmed that attention has now shifted to the conclusion of the Numan Local Government Area poll, which will determine the final composition of the council election results.

Among the newly elected chairmen is Jibril Ibrahim Jimeta, who emerged victorious in Yola North Local Government Area.

The final outcome of the remaining LGA is expected to complete what has already become a dominant showing for the PDP in the state’s council elections.
