El-Rufai arrived at the court complex under tight security provided by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigeria Police Force, alongside ICPC officials, underscoring the sensitivity and prominence of the ongoing El-Rufai corruption trial.
Court proceedings are expected to focus on legal arguments and motions from both the prosecution and defence as the matter advances to a more critical phase of hearing.
The ICPC alleges that the former governor is involved in abuse of office, fraud and financial misconduct linked to projects executed during his tenure in Kaduna State. Prosecutors claim that public funds were released for projects that were either not executed as approved or were handled in breach of due process.
According to the commission, financial records, official documents and witness testimonies will be presented to substantiate the allegations in court as the trial progresses.
El-Rufai, however, has consistently denied any wrongdoing. He maintains that all actions taken during his administration were lawful and insists that the allegations are politically motivated and unfounded.
The El-Rufai corruption trial has become one of the most closely watched legal battles involving a former Nigerian state governor, with political observers noting its potential implications for public accountability and governance standards.
Legal representatives from both sides are expected to intensify arguments as the court continues to evaluate submissions and determine the next steps in the case.
