Rivers APC faction has voided all tickets of Nyesom Wike’s allies from recent primaries, escalating internal party crisis ahead of 2027 elections
A fresh political crisis has erupted within the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after a reinstated faction of the party declared all nominations from its recently concluded primaries null and void.

The decision effectively invalidates the emergence of candidates linked to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who were reportedly selected across various positions, including the governorship ticket.
The development follows a Court of Appeal judgment which upheld earlier rulings nullifying congresses that produced the leadership of the APC faction previously led by Tony Okocha.
In a statement issued by the reinstated leadership, the party said all decisions, nominations and communications carried out between December 20, 2024 and May 29, 2026 were no longer valid.
The faction maintained that the annulment was necessary to restore order and compliance with judicial pronouncements affecting the party’s structure in the state.
Among those affected is Kingsley Chinda, who had emerged as the APC governorship candidate in the state under the disputed primaries, alongside other candidates for the National and State Assembly elections.
The party also called on the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission to withdraw certificates of return previously issued to candidates produced by the Okocha-led faction.
Political tensions have continued to rise in Rivers State, where rival APC factions have remained locked in a struggle for legitimacy and control of the party structure.
Observers say the latest development could further complicate preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, as both factions attempt to assert authority over party nominations.

As of the time of filing this report, the opposing APC leadership in the state had not issued an official response to the latest declaration.
