The selection of the Benue deputy governorship candidate Obetta came less than 48 hours after the party unveiled its governorship candidate, Mr Mathias Byuan, marking a key step in the party’s early mobilisation strategy ahead of the polls.
Mr Byuan, speaking during the unveiling ceremony held at the party secretariat along Otukpo Road in Makurdi, described the choice of Hon Obetta as unanimous, following consultations with stakeholders across the state.
He stated that the party’s leadership had deliberately prioritised inclusivity, particularly the involvement of women in governance, describing Obetta’s nomination as part of a broader political reform agenda.
According to Mr Byuan, the Labour Party intends to transform Benue State from a civil service-driven economy into an industrialised state if given the mandate in 2027.
The Benue deputy governorship candidate Obetta, who previously served as a grassroots political mobiliser and was part of the Goodluck Jonathan campaign organisation, brings years of community engagement and political experience to the ticket.
In her acceptance remarks, Hon Obetta expressed gratitude for the nomination, describing it as a significant honour and pledging to mobilise women across Benue State in support of the Labour Party’s ambitions.
She said she would work to strengthen grassroots participation and ensure broader political inclusion, particularly among women who she described as a decisive voting bloc in the state.
