APC chairman meets Bala Mohammed in Bauchi amid defection talks, as governor weighs PDP exit and possible move to ADC or APC
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, on Wednesday in Bauchi State, Nigeria, held a closed-door meeting with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed amid rising political speculation over the governor’s alleged defection plans from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in a move linked to ongoing Bala Mohammed defection talks.

Nentawe Yilwatda was accompanied by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf during the visit to the Government House in Bauchi, where discussions were held away from journalists and no official statements were released after the meeting.
Sources within the Government House indicated that the meeting may be part of intensified efforts to persuade Governor Bala Mohammed to reconsider leaving the PDP and instead align with the ruling APC ahead of future political realignments.
The development comes just 24 hours after Bala Mohammed, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, hosted a delegation from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.
Speaking after the Tuesday meeting, Bala Mohammed attributed his consideration of defection to unresolved internal crises within the PDP, stating that reconciliation efforts had failed despite multiple intervention attempts.
“We have found ourselves in a very serious situation. I have done everything possible to ensure reconciliation, but it has not worked,” he said.
He further noted that consultations had extended to multiple political parties, including the APC, but claimed that his camp felt politically unwelcome within the ruling party.
“We are not wanted in the APC because we are not being approached… for now, the preference is to move to the opposition party,” he added.
Bala Mohammed also stated that the African Democratic Congress, ADC, currently appears to be the most welcoming option, although discussions remain ongoing and no final decision has been made.
