APC 33rd Governor Defection expected as ruling party says it will receive another governor ahead of its 2026 national convention in Abuja

The party disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday by the leadership of its Digital and Media subcommittees, describing the move as part of its expanding political strength nationwide.

The APC 33rd Governor Defection comes as the party intensifies efforts to promote its Renewed Hope message, which it says is aimed at reaching millions of Nigerians ahead of the 2026 convention.

Speaking during the inaugural meeting of the committee in Abuja, Niger State Governor and Chairman of the committee, Mohammed Bago, urged members to intensify communication efforts and commit fully to the party’s mobilisation strategy.

“Today we received the 32nd governor for the APC, and tomorrow we will receive the 33rd,” Mohammed Bago said.

Also speaking, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who co-chairs the committee, said the party was determined to use the convention to project its achievements and democratic ideals.

“We are not just doing a convention. We are showcasing to the world that there is a party in Africa that believes in real democracy for the people,” Benjamin Kalu said.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital and New Media, Ortega Ogra, added that the committee would leverage digital platforms to reach a wide audience across Nigeria and beyond.
