Elon Musk launches the America Party, promising freedom and reform in a stunning turn against Trump and the current US political structure
Elon Musk launches officially his long-rumoured political project, declaring the formation of the “America Party” on Saturday.

The billionaire entrepreneur broke the news in a post to his X account, confirming weeks of speculation following his public split with President Donald Trump.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO claimed public support gave him the final push. “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it,” he wrote.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
Musk’s political ambitions have taken shape rapidly. Only weeks ago, he was considered a key ally to Trump, standing at his side after contributing heavily to the president’s campaign.
That relationship collapsed following the fallout over the administration’s controversial “big beautiful bill,” which Musk denounced as wasteful and corrupt.
In a move likely to shake up the American political landscape, Musk said the America Party would focus on swing seats in Congress.
“Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring that they serve the true will of the people,” he said.
Though Musk has vowed to financially support select candidates, including Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky, he has not yet shared a roadmap for making his new party legally viable.
Establishing a third party in the United States requires navigating a maze of state laws and complex ballot access rules.
Political analysts remain sceptical about his ability to translate influence into a lasting structure.
“He has the money and the platform,” said one commentator, “but launching a real party is about far more than tweets and slogans.”
The announcement marks a sharp departure from Musk’s recent promise to scale back political spending, which he made just two months ago.

His latest declaration, however, suggests he is again ready to reshape the political arena — this time on his own terms.
