Lamido, speaking during a Ramadan Iftar with PDP officers in his hometown of Bamaina, urged dialogue and compromise, warning that prolonged infighting could prevent the party from meeting deadlines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for primaries and member registration.
The caretaker committee, led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed and backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, is recognised by INEC and has begun preparations for the national convention scheduled for March 28–29 in Abuja.
Lamido stressed that despite political differences, the party must unite to preserve its legacy and electoral competitiveness.
“If we do not unite and put our house in order, the time constraints in the Electoral Act may prevent the party from properly preparing for elections,” Lamido said, emphasising that reconciliation is vital for the PDP’s survival and future success.
Divergent views persist among factions.
The Turaki/Makinde camp indicated that peace talks are ongoing but confidential, while the caretaker committee stated there has been no direct communication with opposing factions, highlighting uncertainty over reconciliation efforts.
Former presidential candidate Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim welcomed reconciliation, saying it would reposition the PDP as a strong force ahead of the 2027 polls.
He also reflected on Nigeria’s economic potential, citing historical industrial growth and calling for visionary leadership to rebuild the nation.
PDP leaders across the 62 FCT wards, including Chairmen of the six Area Councils, recently visited Olawepo-Hashim to express appreciation for his engagement with grassroots members, urging continued involvement to strengthen party structures.
In Bauchi State, the Wike-aligned faction elected Ibrahim Kassim Toro as state chairman through consensus, monitored by INEC officials.
Barrister Bashir Tahir Misau was elected deputy chairman, and a full executive team was confirmed, signalling orderly state-level party operations despite national tensions.
