Ademola Adeleke made the call while receiving members of the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee at the Government House in Osogbo during an official visit.
The governor said the forthcoming poll represents an important democratic exercise not only for Osun State but also for Nigeria’s wider electoral process.
According to Ademola Adeleke, protecting the credibility of the ballot remains essential to strengthening democratic institutions and public trust in elections.
“Credible election is not optional but a compulsory process to safeguard the democratic system,” the governor said.
Ademola Adeleke added that the August 15 governorship poll will attract strong national and international attention because it comes shortly before the country’s next general elections.
“For us in Osun State, August 15 is a critical phase for national democratic evolution. As the last major election before the general elections of 2027, Osun is in the eyes of the nation and the world,” he said.
The governor urged political stakeholders, electoral officials and security agencies to ensure that the process reflects the true will of the electorate through a free and fair voting system.
During the meeting, Ademola Adeleke also highlighted key projects undertaken by his administration since assuming office.
He said the government has focused on completing abandoned projects while initiating new development programmes across multiple sectors.
Ademola Adeleke noted that his administration has also been addressing inherited financial obligations, including unpaid salaries and pension arrears, while implementing initiatives in health, education, agriculture, infrastructure and economic development.
Earlier, Jeremiah Umar, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee, commended the governor for ongoing infrastructural development across the state.
Jeremiah Umar said members of the delegation observed several major construction projects during their visit to Osogbo and other towns.
“When we were coming, we saw flyovers in different places in Osogbo and other towns. Opposite the State Government Secretariat, we also saw a dual carriageway under construction, which shows significant development activities,” he said.
Jeremiah Umar added that residents who interacted with the delegation also spoke positively about improvements in public services, including the renovation of primary healthcare centres and progress recorded by state-owned universities.
