Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello Declares Formidable Ogun 2027 Bid

Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello Ogun governorship bid gains attention as the former senator declares herself formidable ahead of the 2027 race

Former senator representing Ogun Central, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, on Friday declared her intention to contest the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, describing herself as a formidable candidate with a strong political track record.

Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello made the declaration during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, where the 59-year-old politician discussed her return to active politics and her recent defection to the All Progressives Congress.

The former lawmaker said her decision to pursue the governorship was driven by confidence in her experience and leadership capacity.

Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello said the Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello Ogun governorship bid would rely on the same level of political support available to other aspirants in the system.

The former senator also expressed confidence that her parents, former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his wife, would support her ambition at the polls.

Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello said she considered herself fortunate to still have both parents alive as she approaches her 60th birthday.

The former lawmaker said she would not seek approval for every political decision from her parents, but was confident they would support her candidacy.

“I am almost 60; I consider myself lucky to have both my mother and father alive,” Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello said.

Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello added that she believed both parents would vote for her in the election.

“I don’t think at this age I should be consulting them for everything in my career move. What I have said is that my father, I know, and my mother will vote for me,” she said.

The former senator also defended her decision to join the All Progressives Congress, describing the move as part of a personal political journey.

Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello said she believes her political record makes her a strong contender in the upcoming governorship race.

“I feel I am a formidable person to beat because of my track record, and so I am going to go for it,” Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello said.

Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello said she was confident of victory and insisted that her candidacy would compete strongly against other aspirants in the contest.
