Wike Assures Politics Won’t Stall FCT Projects

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike assures Abuja residents that political activities will not disrupt ongoing infrastructure projects

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has assured that ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja will continue unabated, despite upcoming political activities including the Area Council Elections scheduled for February 21.

Wike made the assurance on Wednesday during an inspection of multiple projects across the capital.

Speaking at the sites, Wike emphasised that government responsibilities extend beyond politics, noting that service delivery and development remain a priority for residents.

“Politics is different. You have to serve the people. Politics has its own time, and the work will continue to go on. Politics is not going to affect it,” he said.

During the tour, the minister assessed the Institutional Research Road linking Nile University, the Body of Benchers, and other institutions.

Wike described the road as a strategic artery expected to ease traffic and stimulate local development. Completion is scheduled for May, with inauguration planned as part of President Bola Tinubu’s third-year agenda.

Wike also visited the Body of Benchers extension building, which is 80 per cent complete, with only landscaping remaining.

He further inspected a seven-kilometre road corridor from Euclid Road through Bright Road to Tungan Madaki, highlighting the addition of a conference hall and four-span bridge, which he described as transformative for historically underserved communities.

“The scope of the project was expanded after consultations with local residents, who requested proper road access in addition to compensation for affected crops,” Wike noted.

Contractors have committed to completing the works between late May and early June, with regular inspections scheduled to ensure quality.

The minister stressed that the visible execution of these projects is central to proving the effectiveness of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The only way to make sure that people will be happy and see that the Renewed Hope Agenda is real is to continue with the work,” he said.
