Despite economic pressures and urban congestion, the Sanwo-Olu administration has translated Lagos’ fiscal capacity into tangible outcomes for residents, reinforcing the state’s position as Nigeria’s economic nerve centre.
The governor’s signature achievements include the consolidation and expansion of the rail transportation network.
The Lagos Blue Line now serves thousands of commuters daily between Marina and Mile 2, easing traffic congestion, reducing commute times, and lowering fuel consumption and emissions.
The Red Line, connecting the Agbado–Oyingbo corridor and integrating with the Lagos–Ibadan railway, has similarly enhanced mobility and unlocked new residential and commercial hubs.
Planning for additional lines, such as the Green Line, reflects long-term foresight to accommodate population growth and future urban needs.
Road, bridge, and urban renewal projects have complemented transportation upgrades.
In 2025, critical arterial roads were rehabilitated, while drainage and flood control initiatives mitigated climate-related risks, protecting homes, markets, and businesses.
The Lagos State Affordable Housing Programme delivered new estates in locations including Odo-Onosa/Ayandelu, Ibeshe, Sangotedo, and Epe, easing housing pressures and supporting sustainable urban expansion.
Healthcare and education also saw significant advancement.
The administration upgraded general hospitals and primary health centres, expanded specialist and diagnostic capacity, and strengthened the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme (ILERA EKO), improving access and affordability for residents.
Schools benefited from rehabilitation, teacher training, digital learning initiatives, and curriculum support, reflecting a broader commitment to human capital as economic infrastructure.
Sanwo-Olu’s energy reforms focused on decentralised power solutions, embedded generation, and public-private partnerships, reducing operating costs for MSMEs, increasing productivity, and enhancing business competitiveness.
Strategic investments in agriculture, including rice, poultry, aquaculture, and vegetable production, strengthened food security and created jobs for youth.
The governor also prioritised culture, creative industries, and youth development.
Lagos bolstered its global brand through investments in creative infrastructure, festivals, museums, and cultural districts, generating revenue and employment while projecting Lagos as Africa’s cultural capital.
Youth programmes in skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, and sports further supported civic engagement and long-term economic participation.
Strategic international engagement in 2025 yielded memoranda of understanding across infrastructure, transport, energy, technology, housing, and climate resilience, positioning Lagos to attract long-term investment and global expertise.
Institutional reform within the Lagos civil service reinforced continuity, efficiency, and service delivery.
Deputy Governor Femi Hamzat has played a pivotal role alongside Governor Sanwo-Olu, ensuring alignment and translating policy into measurable results across sectors.
The administration’s achievements underscore a governance philosophy prioritising outcomes over rhetoric.
“Lagos moved decisively from planning to performance, from announcements to outcomes,” according to officials.
Looking ahead, the 2026 agenda promises continuity and expansion.
Rail lines will further enhance urban mobility, embedded power projects will improve energy access for businesses and households, affordable housing initiatives will open new, well-planned neighbourhoods, and completed infrastructure projects will improve safety and liveability.
For Lagosians, 2025 represents a defining year a benchmark in which disciplined leadership, vision, and delivery combined to generate lasting impact.
