Al-Mustapha made his declaration in Minna, the Niger State capital, during a strategic meeting with the state chapter of the SDP and a gathering of enthusiastic supporters.
His announcement adds another influential name to the growing list of aspirants hoping to shape Nigeria’s future in 2027.
He addressed the audience with a mix of emotion and urgency, stating that he was troubled by the state of the nation but driven by the belief that with honest leadership and national unity, Nigeria could recover and thrive.
According to him, the solution to Nigeria’s challenges lies in sincerity of purpose and courageous governance.
“I am pained and deeply concerned about the current state of the nation. However, with the right direction and commitment, Nigeria can rise again,” Al-Mustapha declared, receiving a round of applause from attendees.
He added that despite the difficulties ahead, Nigerians could work together to restore hope and dignity in the country.
The visit to Minna, he explained, was one of many engagements planned across the country as part of his pre-campaign mobilisation.
His intention is to interact with stakeholders, assess grassroots concerns and fine-tune his vision for the nation.
He later travelled to Mokwa to console families affected by recent flooding, reinforcing his image as a candidate with compassion for the people.
Jubril Umar Sanda, the campaign’s media director, confirmed Al-Mustapha’s full readiness for the race, describing him as a disciplined and prepared leader.
According to Sanda, Al-Mustapha is equipped with integrity, a bold vision and the experience required to lead in uncertain times.
The Niger State Chairman of the SDP, Buhari Yarima, welcomed the development, describing the former military officer’s ambition as a turning point for the party and the country.
He said Al-Mustapha’s entrance reflects the SDP’s renewed focus on credible leadership and issue-based politics.
“We are confident that with credible candidates and a clear vision, the SDP will be a force to reckon with in 2027,” Yarima added.
Al-Mustapha’s entry into the 2027 race underlines a broader sentiment among Nigerians for change, stability and a leadership that listens.
