In a statement issued on Tuesday in Gusau, the APC Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Yusuf Idris, said the motivation and support provided by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, and former Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, had continued to inspire confidence among party members and attract new defectors from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Idris confirmed that the latest defection involved Hon. Maharazu Faru, the PDP member representing Maradun II Constituency in the State House of Assembly, who officially joined the APC along with five PDP ward chairmen and hundreds of supporters.
The ceremony, held at the APC Secretariat in Gusau, was chaired by the state chairman, Hon. Tukur Danfulani, and attended by key party leaders including former state chairman Lawal M. Liman and party secretary Ibrahim Dangaladima.
Explaining his decision, Faru accused Governor Dauda Lawal of abandoning campaign promises, especially those relating to insecurity and community development. “My constituency has been sidelined, and there is no fairness in this administration. Only a few favoured PDP members benefit,” he said.
Faru added that the PDP had been “overtaken by crises” and had lost touch with ordinary supporters. “Many of our leaders are now joining Matawalle and Yari in the APC because the PDP has lost direction,” he stated.
Echoing this sentiment, PDP ex-officio member Alhaji Salisu Dodo declared that “PDP is dead in Maradun II Constituency,” accusing the governor of neglecting party loyalists who worked for his election victory.
Receiving the defectors, APC state chairman Tukur Danfulani said the party’s growing popularity, even as an opposition party in Zamfara, reflected its unity and credible leadership.
He attributed the renewed momentum to the “unmatched dedication” of Matawalle and Yari, whose influence, he said, would guarantee the APC’s “uncontested comeback in 2027.”
Danfulani assured the new entrants of equal treatment and urged them to work collectively for the party’s success.
The event was attended by several APC stalwarts, including Hon. Kamilu Sa’idu, Alhaji Bashir Ataka, Mallam Yusuf Idris, and former SSG Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe, among others.
