YPP expels lawmaker Uzokwe over alleged sabotage

YPP expels lawmaker Uzokwe for alleged anti-party activities, reaffirming zero-tolerance policy during NEC meeting in Abuja.

The Young Progressives Party ratified the expulsion of federal lawmaker Uzokwe Peter, representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo, over alleged anti-party activities during its 24th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

The decision, initially announced by the National Working Committee, was unanimously upheld after the NEC reviewed multiple petitions and verified video evidence showing Uzokwe instructing supporters to abandon YPP in favour of rival candidates, including Anambra North’s Chukwuma Soludo of APGA.

National Publicity Secretary Egbeola Martins condemned Uzokwe’s statement as false and deliberately sabotaging.

“The NEC unanimously upheld the decision of the NWC to expel Hon. Uzokwe Ifeanyi Peter. His expulsion follows verified anti-party conduct constituting gross misconduct in violation of the party’s constitution,” he said, reaffirming a zero-tolerance stance against acts undermining party unity.

The NEC also lauded the appointment of retired Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as Minister of Defence, describing him as “a round peg in a round hole,” while urging the President to ensure national security is managed by competent professionals, criticising the performance of current Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle.

To strengthen its national structure, the party elected seven officers to fill longstanding vacancies in line with the Electoral Act 2022.

The new appointees include Hajiya Nana Mahmoud (Deputy National Chairperson), Chigozie Udogu (Deputy National Secretary), Uche Levis (National Legal Adviser), Owoyombo Solomon (Acting National Youth Leader), Paul Chukwuma (National Leader), Sani Darma (North West Zonal Chairman), and Olatunbosun Abolarinwa (National Security Adviser).
