Davido raises concerns over Ebonyi REC Pauline Ugoyenka’s presence in Osun ahead of the August 15 governorship election
Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has raised concerns over the reported presence of Pauline Ugoyenka, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ebonyi State, in Osun ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Davido questioned Ugoyenka’s presence in the state in a post on his verified X account on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
According to reports cited by Davido, the Ebonyi REC had arrived in Osun despite Osun State not being her assigned area of responsibility.
The development prompted the singer to publicly question the reason for her presence ahead of the closely watched election.
“She was not deployed by INEC. What is she doing in Osun,” Davido wrote.
He went further to allege that Ugoyenka had been sent to the state to influence the election, adding that such an attempt would face resistance.
“She was sent here from Governor Hope Uzodimma to rig. We will resist you, madam,” he wrote.
Davido did not provide evidence to substantiate the allegation in his post, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had not issued a public response to the claim as of the time of the report.
The reported presence of the Ebonyi REC comes just one day before Osun voters are due to elect their governor on Saturday, August 15.
The election is expected to attract significant attention, with incumbent governor Ademola Adeleke seeking another term against candidates including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress.
Davido’s intervention has added another high-profile voice to the political conversation surrounding the poll.
The singer has previously spoken publicly about Nigerian politics and has a personal connection to the Osun contest, as Adeleke is his uncle.
Meanwhile, electoral and security authorities have been stepping up preparations for the election.
INEC has said it is ready to conduct a free, fair and credible poll, while the police have deployed more than 15,000 personnel and 30 Commissioners of Police across Osun State.
The police have also deployed aerial surveillance assets, including helicopters and drones, as part of measures to monitor developments before, during and after voting.

With voting scheduled for Saturday, attention will now turn to the conduct of electoral officials, security agencies, political parties and voters as Osun heads to the polls.
