Taofeek Adegoke says he is the authentic ADC candidate for Oyo governorship in 2027, rejecting Gbemileke Alagbe’s rival claim
Taofeek Adegoke has declared himself the authentic African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general election, rejecting a competing claim by fellow aspirant Gbemileke Alagbe.

Adegoke, who is also known as Aare Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadanland, made the declaration on Friday, August 14, 2026, while responding to Alagbe’s assertion that he was the ADC candidate for the forthcoming election.
Reports indicated that Alagbe had made the claim on Thursday, prompting Adegoke to challenge the basis of his rival’s position.
Adegoke described Alagbe’s claim as wishful thinking, arguing that a party’s candidate is determined through its established electoral process rather than by public declarations.
He said he emerged from the party’s governorship primary with **16,051 votes**, which he presented as evidence of his mandate.
According to Adegoke, former aspirant Bisi Ilaka received 11,415 votes, while Alagbe polled 241 votes.
Adegoke further stated that Azeez Adeduntan secured 155 votes, while Niyi Aborisade received 67 votes.
The dispute highlights an emerging contest over the ADC ticket as political activity begins to intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
Adegoke maintained that his position was based on the outcome of the party’s primary and not on the strength of competing political claims.
