The decision was reached on Tuesday night after a caucus meeting held in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the caucus, members unanimously opposed the proposed defection, describing it as harmful to the party’s internal stability.
The senator representing Bauchi North and chairman of the APC caucus, Sama’ila Dahuwa, announced the position after the meeting.
He said the caucus “unequivocally rejects” Mohammed’s admission into the party at this time.
Dahuwa stated that bringing the governor into the APC could affect cohesion, credibility, and electoral performance in Bauchi State.
Reports indicate that Mohammed had considered leaving the Peoples Democratic Party amid internal party tensions.
He was also linked with possible moves to the African Democratic Congress before renewed speculation of a switch to the APC.
The governor’s recent meetings with key political figures had fuelled further rumours about his political direction.
