Umeh Says NDC Has Candidates for All 2027 Offices

Senator Victor Umeh said NDC 2027 candidates will run for every office nationwide and that a 13-person polling-unit structure will help protect votes

Anambra Central senator Victor Umeh said the Nigeria Democratic Congress already has NDC 2027 candidates for every elective office in the country.

Senator Victor Umeh, speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, argued that a party only reaches the polling unit if it fields names on the ballot.

“If a party is present in all the constituencies in Nigeria with candidates contesting the election, the party will be closer to the polling units. It will be a different case where you don’t have candidates; the party will be absent in the polling units,” he said.

“Today, the NDC has been able to field candidates for all the positions that are being contested in the 2027 general elections, so it trickles down to the presence of the party down to the polling units. When you have candidates, they mobilise agents. When you don’t have candidates, they will be empty in those places. So, we are satisfied that we have candidates who are contesting this election across the country very strongly.”

Senator Victor Umeh said mobilisation for vote protection had already begun.

He described a party structure of Polling Booth Executives, with 13 people assigned to each polling unit on election day. “Every polling unit will have a 13-man executive. Is it a polling unit that has 13 people that will not be able to produce a polling agent to represent the party? Of course, the answer will be obvious to you, as we are aware of the need to have agents in every polling unit in Nigeria.”

The claim is a party statement, not an Independent National Electoral Commission list. Nomination, primaries and substitution disputes often change slates before ballot papers are printed.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress is positioning itself as a nationwide vehicle around figures such as Peter Gregory Obi.

Coverage in every constituency would, if sustained, give the party agents and a local face.

Whether those names survive legal and political tests remains a separate question.
