Honourable Samaila Suleiman, a former member of the House of Representatives, made the remark in a statement issued in Kaduna on Thursday, praising President Bola Tinubu for recognising Governor Sani’s enduring legacy in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
He said the award was a well-deserved acknowledgement of the governor’s struggles, sacrifices and contributions to the entrenchment of democratic governance in Nigeria.

He pointed out that Governor Sani was the only serving governor included in the 2025 national honours list, unveiled by President Tinubu during the joint session of the National Assembly on Democracy Day.
“This recognition underscores his steadfast dedication to the people of Kaduna State and to the broader project of national development,” he added.
Senator Sani’s honour comes as part of a wider tribute to key figures in Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement, including the posthumous recognition of Kudirat Abiola, Chief Bola Ige, Ken Saro-Wiwa and others who paid the ultimate price for the country’s democratic progress.
