Lawal Daura made his position known on Sunday during a meeting with supporters in Katsina, where he dismissed reports suggesting that the party had reached a consensus arrangement to produce its governorship candidate.
Daura also denied allegations that he had agreed to step down from the governorship race in favour of a senatorial ambition for the Daura Senatorial District, insisting he remains fully committed to his initial political aspiration.
“I entered the race for the governorship from the outset, and I have not changed that position. I remain fully committed to my aspiration,” he said.
The former intelligence chief also criticised the conduct of the selection process, arguing that it failed to comply with the Electoral Act and the internal guidelines of the ADC.
He maintained that aspirants had consistently demanded either a properly conducted consensus arrangement accepted by all stakeholders or direct primary elections in line with the law.
According to him, dissatisfaction among aspirants stemmed from a lack of clarity over how the alleged consensus was reached, adding that key stakeholders were not adequately informed.
“There have been claims that a consensus was achieved, but none of the five aspirants has been clearly informed of the process that produced such an outcome,” he said.
Daura further warned that he may seek legal redress if the party fails to correct what he described as irregularities in the nomination process.
He also suggested that unresolved disputes could lead to political realignment among aggrieved stakeholders within the party.
Despite the controversy, Daura reiterated his commitment to contesting the governorship, stressing that Katsina State requires stronger leadership to address worsening security and economic challenges.
He described himself as well qualified for the position, stating that his decision to run was driven by a desire to serve and “rescue” the state.
The crisis has further deepened divisions within the ADC in Katsina, as other aspirants continue to challenge the credibility of the party’s selection process.
