David Lyon Perewonrimi is a Nigerian politician and businessman, primarily recognized for his impactful, albeit brief, foray into gubernatorial politics in Bayelsa State.
Born on December 20, 1970, in Olugbobiri, Bayelsa State, Lyon has a background rooted in business, having served as CEO of Darlon Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, among other enterprises.
His political career began in the Third Republic, where he won a councilorship election before military intervention cut short his tenure.
A founding member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Southern Ijaw, he later transitioned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In the 2019 Bayelsa gubernatorial election, Lyon was declared governor-elect, a victory that was controversially overturned by the Supreme Court of Nigeria just a day before his scheduled inauguration, citing irregularities with his running mate’s certificate.
Despite this setback, Lyon remains a significant figure in Bayelsa’s political landscape, known for his grassroots appeal and consistent engagement in community development.
