Abubakar Malami, a prominent Nigerian lawyer and politician, was born on April 17, 1967, in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), he served as the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice from 2015 to 2023 under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Malami obtained his law degree from Usmanu Danfodiyo University in 1991 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992. He further holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Maiduguri.
His extensive legal career includes roles as a state counsel and magistrate.
Politically, he was a key figure in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), serving as the National Legal Adviser of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and a resource person in the APC merger committees.
Throughout his tenure as AGF, Malami was a central figure in legal and policy decisions, attracting both praise and scrutiny.
