Charles Udeogaranya warns Tinubu to pause his 2027 re-election campaign and focus on governance, calling early politicking a breach of the Electoral Act
Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign chatter is “premature and distracting,” says former APC presidential aspirant, Charles Udeogaranya, who urged the President to focus solely on delivering the promises of his current four-year mandate.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, Udeogaranya expressed concern over what he described as subtle but increasing political maneuvering aimed at securing early endorsements for the 2027 elections—calling it not only ill-timed but also a violation of the Electoral Act.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu needs to go low and silence his 2027 presidential ambition, particularly from his surrogates, which I think is ill-timed,” he warned.
His comments follow recent remarks by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which also cautioned political actors against premature campaign activities.
INEC clarified it has not released a timetable for the 2027 polls, further making early politicking inappropriate.
Udeogaranya, known for his Zikist political ideology, emphasized that Nigeria’s political space needs a cooling-off period.
“Political hibernation has a place in politics… so that governance can enjoy optimum time,” he said.
He decried the increasing trend where governance takes a backseat to politicking, especially in states like Anambra.
“No amount of time is enough for politicians to conduct their trade…on the same dried purse meant for people’s welfare,” he added.

Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign strategies, Udeogaranya concluded, should wait until at least June 2026 to allow for meaningful governance to take root and deliver results.
