Bauchi Court Issues Bench Warrant Against Kashim

Bauchi Bench Warrant Kashim Case emerges as court issues warrant over alleged defamation, with NDC candidate Ibrahim Kashim responding

A Chief Magistrate Court in Bauchi has issued a bench warrant against Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Barrister Ibrahim Kashim, over an alleged defamation case filed by two legal practitioners.

Bauchi Bench Warrant Kashim Case stems from a ruling delivered on June 9, 2026, by Chief Magistrate Abdulmumini Adamu in Suit No. CMCBH/870/2026, following a complaint instituted by Barristers Ahmed Sani and Hussaini Saraki.

Court documents indicated that the complainants accused Kashim of making allegedly defamatory statements during a televised interview, in which he was said to have referenced misconduct involving one of the lawyers and a client.

They further alleged that Kashim suggested they may have provided information about him to government officials, claims they described as false, damaging, and injurious to their professional reputations.

The court granted the application for a bench warrant after counsel to the complainants, S.U. Sarki, urged the court to compel the defendant’s appearance, escalating the matter into a high-profile legal dispute.

In response, Kashim said he remains committed to the rule of law and respects judicial processes, insisting that he did not ignore the court summons deliberately.

He explained that the summons was served on a Sunday, shortly before he had already made travel arrangements to Abuja for previously scheduled engagements.

Kashim added that he immediately instructed his legal team to seek an adjournment upon becoming aware of the case, arguing that his absence should not be interpreted as evasion.
