Sule Lamido on ADC: The ex-Jigawa governor says ADC is full of sprinters and urges its 2027 hopefuls to slow down and focus on long-term political strategy
Sule Lamido on ADC has sparked conversation after the former Jigawa State governor described the coalition-driven African Democratic Congress as a party “full of sprinters.”

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday, Lamido, who was present at the party’s July launch, made it clear that his loyalty still lies with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). “I can’t leave a big party for a small one,” he said bluntly.
His remarks come as several ADC figures, including former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi, have already declared intentions to run in the 2027 presidential race, less than a month after the party’s formal unveiling.
While Sule Lamido on ADC carried a tone of constructive criticism, his underlying message was one of strategic caution.
He urged presidential hopefuls in the ADC to take a slower, more calculated approach, rather than rushing headlong into early campaign declarations.
“Let them look inward and keep connecting with people quietly… there are too many sprinters there,” he said.
“They should slow down and look at issues in a deeper way so they can remove this cancer called APC.”
Lamido’s comments were also interpreted as a subtle response to ongoing chatter around Peter Obi’s potential four-year transitional presidency, and speculation about Atiku Abubakar’s possible 2027 comeback bid.
