Tinubu assures US, Europe on state police to boost Nigerian security

The announcement was made during the 14th National Caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

President Tinubu said he had engaged in lengthy discussions with international partners, who sought reassurance on Nigeria’s security strategy.

“They asked me if I’m confident, and I said yes, I have a party to depend on,” he stated.

He emphasised that political reconciliation and internal party cohesion rest with leaders at all levels, adding that flexibility and tolerance are essential for stability and progress.

Tinubu also urged APC leaders to support the recent Supreme Court judgment on local government autonomy, noting that autonomy is meaningless without adequate funding. “Allocations meant for local governments must go directly to them,” he said.

Highlighting grassroots governance, the president called on party leaders to take leadership seriously and stressed the importance of including more women in party structures and decision-making processes.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima echoed the call for internal discipline and cohesion, stressing that sustaining APC’s growing dominance requires careful management of party democracy.

He noted the party’s strength across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and its expanding influence in states with new entrants and defectors.

Shettima projected that APC would maintain its political dominance beyond 2027, reassuring newly joined governors that they had found a home in the ruling party.
