Tinubu Foreign Trips Criticism Intensifies as ADC Slams Absences

Tinubu foreign trips criticism grows as ADC accuses President of neglecting national issues with over 40 trips abroad and months spent outside Nigeria

Tinubu Foreign Trips Criticism reached new heights on Thursday as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) raised concerns over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s prolonged absences from Nigeria, calling his travel pattern “alarming and insensitive.”

In a statement released on X by ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party accused the President of turning Nigeria’s top office into a “frequent flier presidency.”

“By public records, this will be the President’s 40th foreign trip since assuming office, spending a cumulative 181 days abroad—almost six full months,” the statement revealed.

According to the ADC, President Tinubu has spent nearly 25% of his 26 months in office outside the country, while only managing to visit 13 out of Nigeria’s 36 states.

They questioned the value of the foreign trips, noting, “There are no real economic gains for the junkets despite the billions of Naira spent per trip.”

The party’s criticism aligns with sentiments expressed by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who called Tinubu’s 12-day planned visit to Japan and Brazil “insensitive” amidst worsening security and economic crises.

The ADC emphasized the dire need for leadership within Nigeria, citing “growing insecurity, rising poverty, and escalating banditry,” where “taxes are being imposed by criminals” and “citizens are slaughtered in their homes.”

“Nigerians expect their President to be on ground to provide leadership, empathy, and direction,” the statement read.

They also questioned the secrecy surrounding the President’s recent absence since August 1, 2025, highlighting how such gaps in communication fuel damaging speculation.

“A one-day cameo appearance, followed by another trip, does not quell rumours,” ADC warned, calling the explanation that Tinubu is working “from home or undisclosed locations” unacceptable.

The ADC offered a pointed suggestion—if the President had appointed ambassadors, many of these diplomatic trips would be unnecessary.

“All these meetings, even with the best of intentions, will not benefit Nigeria without ambassadors to follow up,” the party asserted.

Citing both economic instability and loss of investor confidence, the ADC concluded that:
