President Tinubu hails former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, on his 91st birthday, praising his patriotism and enduring contributions to Nigeria’s unity
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt birthday wishes to General Yakubu Gowon (retd.), as the former Head of State clocks 91 years.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Gowon as a “patriot and visionary leader” whose counsel and sacrifice have helped shape Nigeria’s unity and development.
“General Gowon’s exemplary statesmanship and continued counsel in national affairs remain invaluable to the growth and stability of the nation,” the President said.
President Tinubu joined family, friends, and fellow Nigerians in celebrating the elder statesman, praising his contributions to national peace, unity, and development both during and after his leadership tenure.
He particularly highlighted Gowon’s role in promoting national cohesion, stating that his efforts continue to resonate in contemporary Nigeria.
General Yakubu Gowon, who served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1966 to 1975, remains a highly respected figure in the country’s political and historical landscape. Known for his post-war policy of “No victor, no vanquished” after the Nigerian Civil War, Gowon has long been associated with efforts at reconciliation and nation-building.
