In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Gowon as a “patriot and visionary leader” whose counsel and sacrifice have helped shape Nigeria’s unity and development.

“General Gowon’s exemplary statesmanship and continued counsel in national affairs remain invaluable to the growth and stability of the nation,” the President said.

President Tinubu joined family, friends, and fellow Nigerians in celebrating the elder statesman, praising his contributions to national peace, unity, and development both during and after his leadership tenure.

He particularly highlighted Gowon’s role in promoting national cohesion, stating that his efforts continue to resonate in contemporary Nigeria.
