Atiku Abubakar defeats Rotimi Amaechi in the ADC presidential primary in Abia State after polling 25,153 votes
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged winner of the African Democratic Congress presidential primary election conducted across wards in Abia State.

The result was announced on Monday by the returning officer for the exercise, Onyebuchi Chukwu, after votes from across the state were collated.
Atiku secured 25,153 votes to defeat his closest rival, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, who polled 18,339 votes.
Businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen finished third in the contest with 3,264 votes.
The primary election was conducted in various wards across the state and was monitored by security agencies, with officials reporting a peaceful exercise.
Reacting to the outcome, the party’s publicity secretary in Abia State, Francess Olisa Ogbonnaya, commended members for their participation and orderly conduct during the voting process.
Ogbonnaya particularly praised party supporters in Arochukwu for turning out in large numbers and contributing to the smooth conduct of the exercise.
The official noted that the peaceful atmosphere recorded during the primary reflected the commitment of party members to the democratic process.

The result adds to a series of state-level presidential primary contests being conducted by factions of the ADC as political parties intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 general election.
