Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Nelson Len, dismissed the speculation during a media briefing in Jalingo on Thursday, assuring the public that no such move is being considered.
“There is no plan whatsoever by the Assembly to declare the deputy governor incapacitated or to initiate any process for his replacement,” Len said.
Alkali, who is currently receiving treatment in Abuja, is expected to return to his duties once he has fully recovered.
Len emphasised that the government remains united and focused on ensuring Alkali’s safe recovery.
He added, “We call on the general public to disregard the speculations that the Assembly is preparing to declare the deputy governor incapacitated. These claims are entirely baseless and without foundation.”

The lawmaker also made it clear that none of the three arms of government in Taraba State—the executive, legislature, or judiciary—has taken any steps toward removing the deputy governor.
Efforts, he said, are ongoing to support the deputy governor’s full recovery and eventual return to office.
Alkali’s extended medical leave, which began in late 2024, had triggered concerns over the length of his absence.
However, government officials have repeatedly insisted that there is no political manoeuvring to exploit the situation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) had previously reported that Alkali’s absence has not disrupted state functions, as Governor Agbu Kefas continues to lead the administration with the support of the executive council.
