Nyesom Wike says he never promised President Bola Tinubu he would join the APC, only that he would support his 2027 re-election
On Tuesday, 15 September 2026, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike said he never promised President Bola Tinubu that he would join the All Progressives Congress.

Nyesom Wike spoke on Arise Television’s Prime Time. He said his pledge was to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, not to switch parties.
“I told them I would support the President right from the start,” Nyesom Wike said. “I never told Mr. President I will join APC. Go and ask him. If I want to join APC, it’s not people like Hope who will tell me to join APC.”

The remark pointed at Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma. Nyesom Wike added: “In fact, he is lucky I’m not in APC because I wouldn’t put up with that kind of nonsense he’s doing in APC.”
