Suswam Denies APC Crisis in Benue After Primary Victory

Suswam Benue APC reconciliation confirmed as former governor denies party division after winning APC senatorial primary in Benue North East

Former Benue State Governor and Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam has declared that there is no division within the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State following reports of political tensions among key stakeholders, including Governor Hyacinth Alia and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Gabriel Suswam said recent disagreements within the party had been resolved after a reconciliation meeting held at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi.

The meeting, according to Suswam, brought together Governor Hyacinth Alia, SGF George Akume, and other APC stakeholders under the coordination of President Bola Tinubu’s intervention.

The Suswam Benue APC reconciliation comment came shortly after his victory in the APC senatorial primary election for Benue North East, Zone A, where he polled 131,083 votes.

Suswam defeated incumbent Senator Emmanuel Memga Udende in a tightly contested primary held across seven local government areas, including Katsina-Ala, Logo, Ukum, Konshisha, Vandeikya, Kwande, and Ushongo.

Describing the political atmosphere, Suswam insisted that the APC remains united in the state, stressing that all key actors had publicly affirmed reconciliation after the meeting.

“There is no divide in Benue as far as I know,” he said, adding that he contested under the APC platform alone and not on behalf of any factional bloc.

He further described Governor Hyacinth Alia as the central political figure in the state, noting that party members are aligning towards his leadership.

“The governor is the political father of the state as of now,” Suswam stated, emphasising the need for continued cooperation among stakeholders.

The remarks come amid ongoing political realignments within the APC in Benue State, as party leaders position themselves ahead of future electoral contests.
