Sura, who previously contested the 2023 governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), formally announced his resignation in a letter dated 21 March 2026 and addressed to the APC Chairman of Panyam Ward in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Sura resigns from APC Plateau politics development marks his second party exit within a year, further highlighting what observers describe as a fluid and uncertain political trajectory ahead of the 2027 elections.
In his resignation letter, the retired military officer stated that his decision takes immediate effect but did not provide specific reasons for leaving the ruling party.
He, however, expressed appreciation to party leaders and members for the support and cooperation he received during his short stay in the APC.
The abrupt departure has triggered widespread reactions within Plateau State’s political circles, with analysts linking the move to shifting political alignments and emerging power calculations ahead of the next general election cycle.
Some commentators suggest the resignation may be tied to concerns over internal party dynamics and the competitive nature of the APC governorship race in the state.
Others argue that geographical and political considerations within Mangu Local Government Area may have influenced his decision, given the evolving political landscape and competing interests ahead of 2027.
Although Sura has not disclosed his next political destination, speculation is mounting that he may join either the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or the Young Progressives Party (YPP) as he continues to weigh his options.
