Sule Lamido Warns Jonathan Against 2027 Political Return

Sule Lamido advises Jonathan against 2027 return to politics, saying Nigeria’s political climate is too unstable for the former president

Former Governor of Jigawa State and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sule Lamido, has cautioned former President Goodluck Jonathan against returning to active politics ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the current political environment as deeply unstable.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Sule Lamido warns Jonathan 2027 return came as he characterised Nigeria’s political landscape as “murky” and dominated by what he called self-serving actors lacking genuine national interest.

The former governor argued that Goodluck Jonathan, as a former president and international statesman, occupies a respected position that should not be risked by re-entering what he described as a desperate and unstructured political contest.

Lamido stated that calls for Jonathan’s return were largely driven by frustration over Nigeria’s current challenges rather than any coherent ideological or policy-driven political movement.

He further noted that many political parties in the country lack clear ideological direction, insisting that most are driven primarily by the pursuit of power rather than national development.

According to him, while public enthusiasm for Jonathan’s return may be understandable, it reflects what he termed a “desperation call” rather than a strategic political vision for Nigeria’s future.

Lamido urges caution to Jonathan 2027 return message concluded with advice that the former president should resist such appeals and preserve his status as a respected elder statesman above partisan politics.

Lamido added that Jonathan could still play a valuable role in the country’s future, but not necessarily through active participation in the 2027 electoral contest.
