Sule Lamido Issues Stark Ultimatum over PDP Crisis

Sule Lamido gives the PDP a nine-day ultimatum to resolve internal crises, warning that party cohesion and credibility are at risk.

Former Jigawa State Governor Alhaji Sule Lamido has issued the People’s Democratic Party a nine-day ultimatum to resolve what he called deepening internal crises threatening the party’s stability.

Lamido delivered the warning in Dutse while receiving PDP stakeholders from Jigawa State, including former chairmen, commissioners and long-time political allies, who urged the dissolution of the Ibadan convention and the organisation of a fresh one.

The former governor lamented that veteran stakeholders like himself had been sidelined by what he described as new forces attempting to distort the party’s long-standing structure.

He alleged that the ongoing turmoil was partly driven by efforts to diminish his influence within the PDP.

Lamido said his recent legal actions were not an attempt to retain power or seek party leadership, but a move to defend the PDP’s legacy and protect what he termed his fundamental rights.

He insisted that, under the party constitution, Umar Damagum and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remain the legitimate leaders of the PDP until their tenure expires on 8 December 2025.

He called for the creation of a unified caretaker committee, urging Nyesom Wike, Damagum and other senior figures to forgive past grievances and support a new path forward.

Lamido said the party must convene a joint meeting to openly address its challenges and rebuild cohesion and credibility.

He appealed to his supporters to remain calm and patient until 8 December, stressing that developments in the coming days would determine the party’s direction.
