Shehu Sani Slams PDP Faction for Pushing Jonathan’s 2027 Presidential Bid

Shehu Sani PDP Jonathan 2027 criticism as ex-senator blasts PDP faction for pushing Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential return bid

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani sharply criticised a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over its reported move to adopt former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Shehu Sani condemns PDP move on Jonathan 2027 ambition came after reports emerged that a segment of the opposition party had endorsed Jonathan’s potential return to the presidential race, a development that has stirred political debate within Nigeria’s opposition landscape.

Sani described the move as belated and politically questionable, arguing that those now advocating for Jonathan’s candidacy failed to support him when the party was in a stronger position ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The former senator stated that the PDP had a better opportunity to mount a serious electoral challenge in 2023, suggesting that the current push reflects strategic miscalculation rather than genuine political renewal.

In a strongly worded remark, Sani said that if the party truly intended to field Jonathan, it should have done so when its political strength was more stable, adding that the current attempt appears to be an effort to revive a weakened structure using the former president’s influence.

The Shehu Sani PDP Jonathan 2027 criticism further highlighted what he described as the symbolic use of Jonathan’s political stature, suggesting that the move may be aimed more at rejuvenating the party than securing a realistic path back to power.
