PDP party unity assured by BOT member Fasiu Bakene as Kabiru Turaki emerges National Chairman, promising resolution of internal rifts
A member of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, Alhaji Fasiu Bakene, has assured party members that all internal rifts will soon be resolved, expressing confidence in a strong showing for the 2027 elections.

Speaking in Abeokuta on Tuesday, Bakene, a former Ogun State House of Assembly member, acknowledged the recent wave of defections but emphasised that internal crises are not unique to the PDP.
“With the emergence of the new National Chairman, all rifts shall soon be resolved, notwithstanding the gale of defections,” he said.
Bakene also commented on the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, describing it as long overdue.
“It’s long overdue. Their utterances, actions, and constant breach of the PDP constitution over the years ought to have been checked. They have demonstrated their skill to kill the same party that made them somebody in the political space,” Bakene said.
He noted that their expulsion would restore discipline and advance the party, lamenting that their continued presence had contributed to public doubt and declining interest in the PDP.
Bakene lauded the party over the emergence of Alhaji Kabiru Turaki as National Chairman, describing the recent national convention as highly successful. He praised the organising committee and all sub-committees responsible for transport, venues, protocol, accommodation, publicity, and logistics.
“The convention was peaceful and recorded a large turnout of delegates. It affirmed the supremacy of party leadership and structure, with members of NEC, BOT, and NWC in attendance,” he said.
Describing Turaki as a highly experienced administrator, Bakene expressed confidence that his leadership would steer the party toward electoral success.

“Emergence of Turaki is a step towards a sound victory for our party, the PDP. He has abundant administrative and political experience to deliver the party. His performances as minister will then come to bear. Surely, he will paddle the ship to success,” he added.
