PDP member Dickson Iroegbu insists the party cannot be an extension of APC following the Appeal Court ruling on the Turaki-led faction
Dickson Iroegbu, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has insisted that the party cannot function as an extension of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), following the Appeal Court ruling on March 9, 2026, which dismissed the appeal by the Taminu Turaki-led faction.

Iroegbu addressing the implications of the court’s decision on the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November 2025.
“The PDP will not become an appendage of the APC. The leader of a group in the PDP has affirmed to be supporting the APC government. They should just go ahead and move into the APC,” Iroegbu said.
He further explained that the ruling does not validate the legality of the so-called Caretaker Committee, set up by the suspended Turaki-led faction.
“Today, the Appeal Court affirmed the suspension of the group that came up with the Caretaker Committee. It was while they were in that suspension that they set it up,” he said.
Iroegbu added that the court’s decision underscores the party’s independence and reinforces internal disciplinary mechanisms.
“Having now received the affirmation that their suspension stands, how can anybody then say you are carrying on with your so-called Caretaker Committee?” he asked.
The PDP member also highlighted broader concerns about political allegiances, noting that members cannot simultaneously support the ruling party while claiming to act within the PDP.

His remarks come amid ongoing tensions within the party following the nullification of the Turaki-led leadership, a development that has been closely watched by political stakeholders across Nigeria.
