PDP Issues Expulsion Certificates to Nyesom Wike

PDP expels Nyesom Wike and others, issuing official PDP Expulsion Certificates to formalise their removal amid factional disputes and court challenges.

National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party issued official expulsion certificates to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other members expelled at the party’s last national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The certificates were handed out at a meeting of the NWC on Tuesday in Abuja, where Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum formally transferred national leadership to Senator Kabiru Turaki.

At the November 16 convention, the PDP ratified the expulsions of Wike and several others over alleged anti-party activities.

Addressing journalists after the NWC meeting, Turaki said the certificates were issued to clarify the status of expelled members to Nigerians and relevant institutions, including INEC and security agencies.

He explained: “Now that they are no longer members of our party, and now that the National Convention, which is the highest decision-making organ of our party, has expelled them, we have decided to issue them certificates of expulsion. So that, when they go to register with other political parties in Nigeria, they will show these certificates as proof that they are no longer members of the PDP.”

The certificates have been dispatched to Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umaru Bature, Kamarudeen Ajibade (SAN), Abdurahman Muhammad, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah Nnanna, George Turna, and Chief Dan Orbih.

Turaki added that the party would soon issue public disclaimers, warning that anyone dealing with expelled individuals “does so at his or her own risk.”

He further described the step as part of the PDP’s broader effort to eliminate “cankerworms” undermining the party and to refocus on offering Nigerians “credible leadership” ahead of the 2027 elections.

The expulsion has been controversial, defying court orders that sought to halt the convention until ongoing legal disputes over state congresses were resolved.

A Wike-loyal faction, led by figures including National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and factional Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman, rejected the Ibadan convention as illegitimate.

They convened a parallel National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja on November 18, where they also announced expulsions of several opponents, including Governors Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Dauda Lawal, former Board of Trustees Chair Adolphus Wabara, and Chief Bode George, citing similar anti-party activities and violations of court orders.
