The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in Ebonyi State, held across all 13 local government areas, ended in Abakaliki with Dr Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, a former governorship candidate and prominent party figure, emerging as the party’s consensus candidate after polling 8,281 votes in a largely uncontested exercise.

The declaration was made by Dr Lekon Rotimi, Chairman of the PDP Primary Electoral Committee, at the party’s collation centre in the Ebonyi State capital on Tuesday evening, following what he described as a carefully verified collation process.
PDP Ebonyi governorship primary saw Odii emerge unopposed, a development that underscored the party’s consensus arrangement ahead of the 2027 general elections. Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials monitored the exercise.
Dr Rotimi confirmed that votes were collated from all 13 local government areas, with Odii securing a total of 8,281 votes.
“I am glad to announce that from the 13 local government areas of the state, we have a total vote of 8,281 for the sole and only candidate of the PDP,” Rotimi stated.
He added that after verification and collation, Odii was duly declared the winner of the PDP Ebonyi governorship primary, describing the process as concluded in line with party guidelines.
Party stakeholders also described the exercise as peaceful, with the State PDP Chairman, Chukwuma Igwe, attributing the smooth conduct to internal consensus-building within the party.
Igwe said the party had consistently adopted consensus arrangements across its primaries in the state, describing the PDP as a “peaceful family” in Ebonyi politics.
Addressing supporters after his declaration, Odii commended the conduct of the exercise and framed his victory as a mandate for what he described as a rescue mission for the state.
He criticised the current administration in Ebonyi State, alleging mismanagement and describing it as a “family business government,” while pledging to restore governance focused on development and public welfare.
Odii stated that his ambition was centred on economic recovery, improved public services and what he called liberation of the state from poor governance.
He added that he remained undeterred by political opposition, insisting that his focus was the future development of Ebonyi State and the wellbeing of its citizens.

Political observers say Odii’s emergence as PDP candidate positions him as a key contender in the build-up to the 2027 governorship election in Ebonyi State, where the party is expected to intensify its campaign strategy following the primary outcome.
